Developed over 10 years, Christianity Explored is an informal course for people who'd like to investigate Christianity, or just brush up on the basics. Using Mark's Gospel and a simple video presentation, we explore who Jesus was, what his aims were, and what it means to follow him.

You're not asked to pray, sing, or read aloud, and you can ask any question you like. Or, if you prefer, you can come along and simply listen.

Christianity Explored is for anyone who wants to investigate Christianity informally with a group of other people.

Whether you have previous experience of Church, Christians and the Bible, or none at all, this course is for you. Everyone is welcome - from the most sympathetic Sunday schooler to the convinced atheist. We will respect your background, culture and beliefs. Tell us as little or as much about yourself as you feel comfortable.

We run several Christianity Explored courses over the year, and as soon as the next one is announced, we'll update this page. If you'd like us to contact you directly when a course is planned, or have any questions, please let us know.

What goes on?

The course is normally run in groups of 6-15 people. We usually start at 8pm, and after briefly discussing the course material from the week before, there is a video on the theme for that week. Then the groups discuss any questions that have arisen. At about 9pm the evening is officially over, but most people stay for pizza and drinks, and sometimes to discuss any further issues they are interested in.

How long does the course last?

Usually ten weeks, though some courses we run are shorter.

Can I pull out if I want to?

Of course you can.

Do I have to pay, or bring anything?

No, the course is free, and all materials are provided.

Is it 'churchy'? Am I going to get preached at?

We don't think so. After all, if that's what you'd like, you can join us in our Sunday services! Christianity Explored is different. Each evening includes a video designed to explain an aspect of Christian belief and to stimulate discussion. (An extract from the first episode of the video is shown on this page.) Hopefully you'll find it challenging and interesting. The group leaders will facilitate discussion and try to answer questions.

Do I have to speak in the group?

Not if you don't want to. You are welcome to come and just sit and listen.

What is Christianity Explored based on?

In Christianity Explored we look at one of the books of the Bible – Mark's Gospel. We use Mark's Gospel because Mark simply explains who Jesus was, what his aims were, and what it means to follow him. Instead of giving your our opinion of who Jesus is, we aim to simply explore what the Bible says about him.

Why is the course run?

We count it a real privilege to explain the truth and relevance of the Christian message. We don't have all the answers to every question, but believe that we have exciting news to share about Jesus Christ, and we'd like to share it with you.

When does the course run?

A new course held here at the church will begin on Monday 13th October at 7.45pm and last for 10 weeks. This will be ideal for those interested in knowing more about the Christian message – the setting is very informal with a dvd presentation, discussion and pizzas! Sign list on the table at the front of the church if interested or contact the Pastor on email andychristofides@googlemail.com.
